All said and done, he started it all. He made R&B into futuristic, sleek popmusic for the masses. He conquered the world and redrew the map of both R&B and pop forever. It is because of him I, Justin Timberlake and millions of others in our generation are into music.

Strange 80's Stuff
Berkeley's Timex Social Club is considered to be one of the most influential groups in the new jack swing genre. "Rumors" was a huge club hit in 1986. The video would be considered to be the pinnacle of dope during the hipster era a couple of years ago. The track will be considered dope forever.

Convenient Amnesia
Topically, RNB has been constrained to a couple of subjects: love, sex and pain caused by love and sex. Years go by, and the more things change, the more they stay the same, new cats come with new viewpoints and sometimes an old school jam gets revived by someone and gives you a new perspective on the same topic.
Take for instance William Bell's classic "I forgot to be your lover"
The reason William forgot to be someones lover is 'cause he's been busy working, and should have paid more attention to his woman. Now he's sory and he's gonna make it up to her.
The song later on got revamped by the gangster with the golden voice Jaheim, but this time it's called "Put that woman first".
In the new of age of the do-rag wearing smooth criminal, Jaheim forgets to be his womans lover because he's smoked out, shopping for rims or watching ESPN. And the song is more about damage control than true regret. Makes you think, are there any gentlemen left, and where'd the love go?

Real Life Issues pt 1: Infidelity
I was listening to Ne-Yo's "Cant, shake, lose" the other day and it got me thinking. Being in a relationship can be a strange affair, but what about when you get caught up in someone else's relationship? I'm talking about cheating, people. I'm sure most of y'all experienced having feeling for someone that already got a wifey/hubby (and many has surely been tricked by someone saying "me? I'm single" only to discover that it's not entirely true...). LL is convinced that he can get the girl, if he only had the guts to talk to her, in this classic:

Ego trippin
Given that it's fall and the weather is so so, I felt I needed a pick-me-up today. As I don't drink or do any of those things, I had to be creative. Today I give you the ultimate ego trippin through music: not one but TWO songs that is named after (well... sort of) me! I got quite a collection of tunes that reps my Christian name, it's a lil hobby of mine, but today the focus is on my DJ-name: Baby Doll for the win y'all!
Saturday Night
I was gonna post this classic track this saturday but I forgot.
I'm doin it now instead because I really need to pretend that tomorrow is saturday to get through this horrible and rainy tuesday. Anyway here it is, the super smooth "Get Down Saturday Night" by Oliver Cheatham.
You can do yourself a favor and ignore the lame "rap" intro by the guy in the strange hat in this video, just skip forward to about 1 minute where things get reeaaally smooth with Oliver.

The Sunday Sample
Today we bring you a track sampling one of the PNC-crews favorite rappers: Biggie Smalls.
"Someone" was the second single from SWV's 97 album Release Some Tension and never made it big on the charts. Ten Crack Comandments, the track sampled, features a break from Kentucky jazz legend Les McCann.

Friday Throwback at PNC
Every friday we'll give you a golden nugget from the formative years of modern R&B (the name of this serial is deliberatly stolen from legendary backpacker blog Spinemag). This is a wonderful live performance of the SOS-bands 1980 hit "Take Your Time (Do It Right)". This song is featured on their self-titled debut album and remains the SOS-bands biggest hit to date, as well as an important cornerstone in the foundation of modern R&B.

R. Kelly's Eyewear Game pt I
We at Peaches N Cream love Kellz. or at least I do. he embodies the kind of lunacy that every artist of his magnitude inevitably faces, the line starting from Little Richard and stretching to Michael Jackson and beyond.
This struggle between sexuel deviance and fear of god has manifested in several ways in Kellz's case. Artistically, he has gone from making right out gospel to some of the nastiest sex-jams in the history of sex jams, and estatically... Well, let's just say that Kelzz isn't anywhere near Prince quite yet, but is well on his way to embrace his own "quirkyness" dresscode-wise.
One of his main characteristics have been the different types of eyewear that he uses. In this case, we see a Zorro-esque type of mask. I'm sure there is a diatribe of Kellz's to be found on the Internets explaining why the hell he chose to dress up as a Bollywood villain, but it's much more fun to leave it up for speculation.

Nuttin' But Love
Heavy D is seriously underrated.
Nuttin' But Love is a really dope track,
Produced by Kid Capri in 1994 and the sampled track by scottish(!?) band Endgames is almost as smooth as Heavy himself.

Monday Morning Loving Pt 1
When Drake sings about the best he ever had it's all good but he has nothing on the freakyness that's one of my fav tunes of all time...
The Sunday Sample

Checka ”I Need You” här (MF, 128).
